January 1: New Years Day, seen in by eating 12 grapes, one on each chime.
January 6: `The Day of the Kings´ The day on which the Spanish exchange gifts, equivalent to our Christmas Day.
Mid February/Beginning March: Carnival Time - A spectacular event with thousands of people taking part in different parades.
March 19: Día de San Juan – Public Holiday
End March/Beginning April: Easter week (Santa Semana) – Thursday & Friday being Public Holidays.
May 1: Labour Day – Public Holiday
During May: Harvest Festivals
May 30: Canary Island Day – Public Holiday
End May/Beginning June: Corpus Christi – The Thursday following the 8th Sunday after Easter.
June 23 & 24: Fiesta de San Juan – Goats are bathed in Puerto de la Cruz harbour.
July 15: Fiesta del Gran Poder de Díos – Puerto de la Cruz
Mid July: Fiesta Virgen del Carmen – Patron Saint of fishermen and sailors. Huge processions, mainly in Santa Cruz and Puerto de la Cruz.
July 25: Public Holiday in honour of St James the Apostle - Patron saint of Spain.
August 15: Fiesta Virgen d la Candelaria – Patron of the archipelago.
August: Large harvest and folk festival in Garachico.
October 12: Diá de la Hispanidad (National Day)
November 1: All Saints Day – Public Holiday
December 6: Diá de la Constitución, to celebrate the Spanish political constitution – Public Holiday.
December 8: Feast of the Immaculate Conception – Public Holiday.
December 25: Christmas Day (Navidad) – Public Holiday
Note: During Tenerife festivals many shops and petrol stations are closed.
